Competitive Math Summer Programmes for High School Students

Are you the kind of student who gets excited at the prospect of solving math problems? Is mathematics a subject that comes naturally to you? Here are some ways to spend your summer delving into the analytical world of mathematics and enriching your quantitative skills.



Program focus:  SUMaC is ideal for advanced students ready to immerse themselves in intensive mathematical problem-solving. It leads participants on a journey in advanced mathematics through lectures, guided research, and group problem-solving. In an environment centered around mathematics, participants explore current lines of mathematical research, the historical development of important areas of mathematics, and applications across scientific disciplines.

Program focus: PROMYS is a six-week summer program in mathematics for strongly motivated high school students. It is a residential program held on the campus of Boston University. It is focused purely on mathematical exploration and allows students to investigate topics such as number theory, dynamical systems, geometry/topology, probability, and statistics. It also gives each student the opportunity to participate in mentored research in Mathematics. 

Cost: $6,100

Eligibility: 14 Years +, Grade 9 and above

Location: Boston, Massachusetts

Dates: June 30th to August 10th, 2024

Deadline: March 1st, 2024


Program focus: A challenging six-week residential mathematics summer programme, PROMYS India is open to mathematically talented secondary and higher secondary students. Meticulously selected students from across India will gather on the campus of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru to immerse themselves in rigorous mathematics. PROMYS India is closely modelled on its parent programme, Program in Mathematics for Young Scientists (PROMYS) which has been running at Boston University in the United States since 1989.

Cost: no charge

Eligibility: Grades 9-12

Location: Bangalore, India

Dates: May 5 - June 24, 2024

Deadline: March 1st, 2024



Program focus: Students will be exposed to several different areas of mathematics through colloquia and other activities, but the primary focus of the camp will be Number Theory & The Art of Mathematical Thinking. Students will learn to explore the theory of numbers by asking thoughtful questions, working out examples, looking for patterns, making conjectures, and finally, proving their results. Students will learn through interactive lectures, group problem solving sessions, and final projects/presentations.

Cost: $2,700

Eligibility: Grade 9-12 students who have completed Algebra 2 or an equivalent course

Location: Savannah and Atlanta

Dates: July 1-12, 2024

Deadline: April 26, 2024

Cohort: 25 students


Program focus: The Ross Program is a 6-week intensive summer experience designed to encourage motivated pre-college students to explore mathematics. During those weeks, students are immersed in a world of mathematical discovery. At Ross, we hope to help nurture mathematical curiosity and logical thinking in our students to produce future leaders in the world.

Cost: $7,000

Eligibility: 15-18 years

Location: Otterbein University in Columbus, Ohio or Rose Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana 

Dates: Otterbein University: June 9 - July 19, 2024 | Rose Hulman Institute of Technology: June 16 - July 26, 2024 

Deadline: March 15, 2024

Cohort: 60 students at each site


Program focus: The AwesomeMath Summer Program is an intensive three-week online program for gifted students from around the globe. It is designed for bright middle and high school students who wish to sharpen their problem-solving skills and further their mathematics education. Many of our participants seek to improve their performance on contests such as AMC10/12, AIME, or USA(J)MO.

Cost: $1,475

Eligibility: 12-18 years

Location: Virtual

Dates: Session 1: June 10 - 28, 2024, Session 2: July 1 - 19, 2024, Session 3: July 22 - Aug 9, 2024

Deadline: Round 2: March 28, 2024, Final deadline: May 28, 2024


Program focus: MathILy is a 5-week intensive residential summer program for mathematically excellent secondary students. If you want to explore and create mathematics, MathILy is the right fit for you. Learn the framework, make (and prove!) the conjectures. Students will encounter new ideas, improve their problem-solving skills, learn lots and lots of advanced mathematics, and hone their overall thinking skills. 

Cost: $5,300

Eligibility: 15-18 years

Location: Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania

Dates: June 30 - August 3 2024

Deadline: April 30, 2024

Cohort: 45 students
