Interested in attending a pre-college summer school but don’t have the option of traveling abroad? Here are some programmes offered in India at leading institutions that will give you a glimpse of college life and let you explore different academic disciplines.

Program focus: Offered across two sessions with a hands-on approach to learning, Ashoka University’s “Young Scholars Programme” is a 5-day-long certified summer residential programme exposing students to a liberal arts and science education at the university level. The university offers 5 streams including their flagship “Foundation Liberal Arts & Sciences” programme along with “Frontiers of Science,” “Tech, Data & Computer Science,” “Economics, Policy & Society” and “Entrepreneurship, Leadership & Impact.”

Program focus: Symbiosis International University in Pune offers a summer programme catered to students finding themselves torn between two or more academic options for college. The nearly two-week program covers a wide range of disciplines from law and journalism to engineering, architecture and medicine.

Program focus: This year, the O.P Jindal Global University is offering an additional BeSingular Future Leaders Programme (FLP) along its flagship Aspire India Scholars Programme (AISP) for high school students. The 10-day AISP programme gives students an exposure to a wide range of academic disciplines through thematic and skill workshops, career sessions and projects. Newly launched, the BeSingular FLP is an Indo-German summer residential programme with a week-long stay in Dresden focusing on creativity and innovative problem-solving.

Program focus: UCL (University College London) is offering its first-ever summer school outside of the UK at Delhi’s The British School, offering college-bound students a taste of what it’s like to study at London’s leading university. The week-long programme is non-residential running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily incorporating a seminar-style teaching system. While applications have closed, UCL has a few remaining seats for two pathways: Climate Change and Cities of the Future, and Creative and Cultural Industries.

Cost: Rs 38,000

Eligibility: Grade 10 or older

Location: Delhi

Dates: June 10-14, 2024

Program focus: The Young Leaders for Active Citizenship (YLAC) offers a week-long summer bootcamp, providing high schoolers a platform to advance their leadership skills and make a change in society. Sessions will focus on philosophy, political science, sociology and economics while employing an experiential pedagogy.

Program focus: The Indian School of Design and Innovation (ISDI) offers a unique 10-day summer programme certified by New York’s Parsons School of Design focusing on creativity, design and technology. Students will get to engage with design disciplines ranging from graphics to fashion styling, build their art portfolio and learn from industry experts.

Cost: Rs 53,100 (+18% GST)

Eligibility: Grades 9-12

Location: Mumbai, Maharashtra

Dates: May 20-31, 2024 | June 3-14, 2024 | June 24 - July 5, 2024
